Biggest Shower Mistake: Forgetting To Calculate Proper Amount Of Shower Slope.

There’s no cutting corners when it comes to installing shower door. Even one small oversight can spell disaster. If you want waterproofed the shower, be aware of this common mistake.

The slope of your shower curb is one of the most important things to consider for effective water containment. Ensure that it’s not level and never slopes away from the door and towards the bathroom floor.

Without the right slope on the floor of your shower, the water will not drain properly. Standing water is a recipe for growing bacteria and developing leaks.

Here are a few problems that can arise from an improper shower curb slope:

  1. An increased risk of slip and fall
  2. Leakage in the bathroom floor and possible damage
  3. Mould and mildew growth

The Solution: Making Sure the Curb Is Sloped Towards the Shower Floor

A professional knows the importance of the pitch and slope of the curb. A 3.18 mm to 6.35 mm inward pitch must be achieved to prevent water from seeping under the shower door.

You can verify this measurement with the level and a tape measure. Position the level perpendicular to the curb. (Hopefully) lift it up on the drain side of the curb to find level, leaving the other end of the level in contact with the bathroom side of the curb. Then measure off the gap between the level and the curb. Again, hopefully, it falls in the ranges given above.

If your shower curb slope is already installed incorrectly, you can put in a threshold or water dam with a new glass shower.
