Design Tips for Your Shower Doors.

Custom designed frameless shower enclosures are beautiful!

That being said, achieving the perfect bathroom look with a frameless shower is not as simple and straightforward as you may think. There are many additional decisions to be made, particular as it relates to the design of your new shower.

If you’re in the early stages of the process

The absolute best tip I can give you is to make a floor plan.  Lay out where your door will be in relationship to everything in your bathroom; including the vanity, entrance door, toilet, towel bars or any other objects you may have in your bathroom.

If you want a custom door, is there enough room for the door to open before it hits the entrance door, toilet, or vanity and so on.

Check where your shower head will be directed.  If directed at the door or your hinges or under heavy pressure you will have more of a chance for water to escape the unit/leak.

Select Your Shower Design

If you are designing a new bathroom layout, you would first need to decide on your shower design. Will the shower be a part of the bathtub, a walk in or a stall shower? If you’re updating an existing bathroom and maintaining the structure, your decision may be made for you. A complete remodel, even if keeping the shower in the same place, may give you some more options.

Choosing the Right Shower Glass

When you want more light, the ability to see your shower interior and a classic shower door style, choose clear glass for your shower door or enclosure.

Safety glazing should be the foremost consideration when choosing glass for showers, especially for doors. Tempered glass, the most common shower glass used in bathrooms, shatters into small pellets rather than shards when it breaks, avoiding significant injury to people.

Be strategic about where you place your shower head(s).

The last thing you want after investing in a beautiful frameless shower enclosure is to run into issues with leaking. This is why it’s so important to be mindful of where you place your shower head(s). Make sure that all nozzles are pointed toward the glass or tile wall of the enclosure and never directly toward the door itself. This will improve the functionality of your shower and prevent the chance of leaks.

Keep proper drainage in mind.

For optimal usage, frameless shower enclosures must be designed with appropriate drainage. A shower floor that doesn’t properly drain will result in water pooling which can cause damage and could contribute to the growth of dangerous mold and mildew. In addition to ensuring proper drain placement, it’s also important that the shower floor be installed at the appropriate incline. This helps direct water to the right spot for adequate drainage purposes.

But unfortunately, customers end up paying higher custom prices solely to cover up costly mistakes due to a lack of planning.
